Seasonal allergies, also known as allergic rhinitis or hay fever, are immune system reactions that occur at certain times of the year, usually during spring, summer, and fall. These allergies are caused by exposure to environmental allergens such as pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds.

An allergic person’s immune system identifies these allergens as threats, even though they are actually harmless, and responds by producing antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE). These antibodies, in turn, trigger the release of histamines and other chemicals in the body, causing the uncomfortable symptoms of seasonal allergies, such as sneezing, itching, stuffy nose, and watery eyes.

Also, washing bedding in hot water once a week can help eliminate dust mites. Maintaining a low relative humidity, ideally below 50%, through the use of dehumidifiers, can also be beneficial.
